Working with Villiers Brothers

Alongside our established sheet metal fabrication work, here at DaRo we are growing another side of the business relating to high spec, high quality architectural metal work.

It is a side to our output that not only demonstrates our ability to work with various metals of all types and finishes, but also illustrates our approach of working closely with customers on product design and visualisation.

A good example of this are the recent projects we have been involved in with luxury furniture makers Villiers Brothers. As the name suggests, this interesting company is run by three brothers who over 26 years have established a global reputation for the design and quality of their tables, chairs, mirrors and sculptures. Based in a rural location south of Cambridge, they produce exceptional pieces for an international market of interior designers, hotel designers and super yacht owners.

One of the brothers, Tim, contacted us earlier this year explaining he was looking to outsource some work if he could find the right partners to work with. After initial discussions we sent through drawings and worked with Villiers to ensure we offered a quote and a lead time that was acceptable.

It has led to a fruitful relationship that so far has seen us produce a number of items including a custom-size Brooklyn-style console table with a gilt finish and a sculpted ‘Revolution’ dining table with a polished nickel finish.

But don’t just take our word for it. We thought the best approach for this bulletin was to ask Tim, a director at Villiers Brother, what it is like working with DaRo. We have to say we are delighted and flattered by his response.

Tim said: “DaRo is one of only a couple of manufacturers Villiers Brothers has outsourced work to. From the outset I was impressed with their professionalism – they were prompt in getting back and I felt at home with them from very early on.

“They took time to understand our requirements and came back with a reasonable price and lead times.

“What clinched it was the powder coating service that DaRo offers. It means they can offer a fabrication and finishing service all in-house, a one stop shop.

“I am very pleased with the end results – they have nailed it. And they have been no problem to work with, on time and hassle-free – totally what we were after when we made the decision to outsource.”

Needless to say it has also been a pleasure working with Villiers and we are now looking at some longer term initiatives including producing a special bronze powder coating for some of their pieces.

New Belotti 5-axis CNC Machining

At DaRo Products we strive to keep up to date with technology ensuring our production processes are efficient as possible. Which is why we have recently invested in a new Belotti 5-axis CNC machining centre.

The new machine allows us to trim, drill and machine products at a much faster rate, saving time and money, resulting in cost savings for our customers. But perhaps the biggest advantage is the high level of quality and consistency that comes from this machine rather than traditional methods of finishing.

This machine gives us the added advantage of being able to receive CAD files directly from our customer, or designing a product in-house using Solidworks, allowing precision and accuracy that can be sent directly to the machine to be manufactured.

Not only does this machine give us the competitive edge for product finishing but also enables us to produce vacuum form tooling in-house for greatly reduced lead times for new jobs.

Take a look at our Belotti 5-axis CNC machining centre in action:

“DaRo Products are proud to be associated with Nordson DAGE in the prototype development and manufacture of their new X-Ray Cabinet

Nordson DAGE (A division of Nordson Corporation – NASDAQ: NDSN); designers and manufacturers of multi-award winning x-ray systems for the electronics industry, turned to DaRo Products when it came to building their latest concept – the XM8000 (shown below) and the product was previewed last month (January 20th – 22nd 14) at the SEMI European 3D TSV Summit which took place in Grenoble in France.
The Nordson DAGE XM8000 offers fast automatic X-ray measurement of TSVs, 3D packages, MEMS and wafer bumps for voiding, fill level, overlay and other critical dimensions.
This new platform takes the market-leading capabilities from Nordson DAGE’s existing X-ray systems to provide an automated, high-throughput X-ray metrology and defect review system for both optically hidden and visible features of TSVs, 2.5D and 3D IC packages, MEMS and wafer bumps.

DAGE X-Ray Cabinet

This was an exciting new development for DaRo Products who, can expand into other areas of x-ray technology as will now receive further approval for work on lead-lined cabinets for x-ray equipment and other equipment giving off similar levels of radioactive emission.

DaRo Products continue to expand their horizons, and the philosophy of real customer partnerships coupled with a disciplined continuous improvement programme is really opening up new and exciting markets.

Automation added to powder coating lines

State-of-the-art automation added to powder coating line.

DaRo Products have added state-of-the-art Gema reciprocators to our automated powder coating lines; housed within our purpose-built Sudbury manufacturing facility.

Always striving for continuous improvement, DaRo have opted for this system in order to further increase the uniformity of powder coating and with precise gun positioning coupled with high levels of flexibility, this latest paint technology innovation will allow us to optimise on coating quality whilst allowing smooth and efficient automation.

Giving us a firm base for future automation also, the Gema Reciprocator systems give us the ability to range from simple vertical strokes through to more complex multidimensional processes and all with uniformity of coating whilst constantly repeating the highest quality levels in coating finish and durability.
